Some versions of the Mac OS also offer an alternate method, known as the Character Palette, that is more cumbersome than the above method but can be used if you forget the key combinations. To open the Character Palette if you have it available, open the Input menu on the top right of the menu bar to find it. I used to be able to do this -- to hold down a vowel and a pane would pop up with choices for the accent mark. It just recently quit working, right about the time I installed the last OS. In fact, I seem to remember having this issue before, that the ability to add an accent to Spanish words disappeared with an OS update. I have never gone and fiddled with the Terminal app, so I found this some other way. Anyone know how to activate this feature for those of us who don't feel confident playing in the Terminal app?
